Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Teenage pregnancy is happening all around and your daughter could be one of them. Understanding teenage pregnancy statistics may help you come to grips with this reality because it may make you feel better to know you are not alone. Millions of parents like you in the world are in the same dilemma.

Teenage pregnancy statistics can be difficult to compile and may prove to be confusing. You must understand the trend by looking at the data and taking in the whole picture to understand it all.
This means that to get an accurate assessment of teenage pregnancy statistics for example in the United States, you should look at the statistics from the local, federal and state level to get an idea of what statistical data is accurate and available.

For instance recent reviews and surveys showed that a dramatic decrease in the number of teenagers who become pregnant for the last 20 years. Looking at this, you may conclude that sexual activities among the teenagers may have decreased but this is not an accurate assessment.

Factors Affecting Reduction Of Teenage Pregnancy

If you think that teenage pregnancy statistics indicated a dramatic decrease, there are several factors for this. One could be the awareness and the availability of contraceptives in the market. Teenagers who engage in sexual activities are already aware of the use of contraceptives to prevent pregnancies.

Education among the youth played an important role in introducing the use of contraceptives to teenagers. Even by browsing through the internet they can get more information about this.

Another factor for the decrease in teenage pregnancy statistics could be the legalization of abortion. This method however, is not prevention of pregnancy but termination of pregnancy.

Religious organizations who campaigned on abstinence as the most effective method of decreasing pregnancy among teenagers is another factor in the decreased teenage pregnancy statistics. Church groups and faith- based organizations continue to instill in the minds of the youth the importance of abstinence and they are succeeding.

Teenage pregnancy has been a serious problem and will remain a problem not only in the United States but in other parts of the world as well. There is a big chance of the teenage pregnancy statistics to reduce and continue reducing as proper education about the use of contraceptives and abstinence will be continued.

How To Deal With Teenage Pregnancy

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

When you discover that hopes for a bright future for your child is crushed because of teenage pregnancy, this could be the most challenging and discouraging times of your life as a parent. You have dreams of giving your daughter the best since Day One when she grew up in your stomach. Naturally you have dreams of seeing her reach her goals, march down the aisle in a flowing white gown to get married. Now all your dreams had been shattered by two words: teenage pregnancy.

When this happens, and it does, do not get not fly off the handle right away. Take control of yourself because there are other ways of handling situations like this.
Screaming at your daughter or hurting her will not change anything.

Accepting It
Receiving news of a teenage pregnancy, especially if it happens to your daughter is no easy matter. If you and your daughter are close and she tells you personally about her pregnancy, keep your cool. Try as much as you can to understand her. Talking without raising your voice or getting hysterical is difficult to do but your daughter needs you this time.

Teenage pregnancy is a hard reality to accept. Ask your daughter to talk to you, to tell you everything she wanted to say without interruption. Delivering a sermon about morality and the consequences of what she has done will do no good at this time. The situation is here, just try to accept it.

Time For Decisions
As soon as you have learned everything you need to know, ask your daughter what she plans to do without imposing. Studies conducted in cases of teenage pregnancy showed that the teenager would realize the magnitude of her problem if you ask her what she intends to do and what her decisions are.

If your daughter is not in the right frame of mind to think and decide about her future, you can give her time to think and find solutions to her own problem. If the baby’s father is willing to take responsibility, you and your daughter could talk with him to discuss what they want to do. This is important because another life is on the way and decisions must be made sooner. The baby’s life and future is at stake. Teenage pregnancy happens, but you can help your daughter cope with it.
