Pregnancy Calendar: Tracking Your Progress

So many changes happen to you when you are pregnant and keeping a pregnancy calendar can help you monitor your progress. You can also determine if you and your baby are doing everything right and you can calculate when you expect to deliver your baby.

When you use a pregnancy calendar, it is easy to calculate your expected time of delivery. You do not have to wrack your head to calculate and count 280 days or 40 weeks ahead from the time you got pregnant to determine your expected date of delivery.
Pregnancy calendars usually have a calculation available so all you need to do is just trace the date when conception took place and match it with the date when you expect to deliver your baby.

How Accurate Are Pregnancy Calendars?

Midwives and other medical health professionals are using the modern pregnancy calendars because these are more or less scientifically proven accurate.

However, only a few babies arrive on the exact date of expected delivery. Most of them arrive earlier or later than expected. To give you an allowance for preparation, doctors and midwives will tell you to prepare one or more weeks before and after your expected date of delivery.

First time mothers can expect their babies to arrive earlier than expected so preparations must cover time allowances weeks before and after your expected date. However, no two pregnancies are alike so do not be confident that your baby will arrive later because it is not your first time. Babies may arrive a week before or a week after your expected date. However, when your baby becomes overdue for more than a week, you should consult your doctor or midwife immediately to avoid complications.

Using Chinese Pregnancy Calendars

Over the years, Chinese pregnancy calendars have been known to predict the sex of your baby. Many people who have tried using the Chinese pregnancy calendar claimed that they were able to successfully predict their baby’s sex but so far there have been no scientific explanations to support this claim.

The Chinese pregnancy calendar is believed to work by matching the age of the woman with the date of her pregnancy. You only have to trace your age during the time you got pregnant to determine your baby’s sex. These days however, modern technology makes it possible for you to know if your baby is a boy or a girl through ultrasound.
